Project One – Climbing Frame and Swings

First up is Ben, he was looking for a suitable flooring after buying his two sons a climbing frame from Dunster House. After researching playground flooring, he decided he needed both a strong and protective surface. Which is when he found our rubber grass mats that are perfect for playground flooring. Ordering the same day, Ben received his mats three working days later ready to install.

Ben had already planned the entire project out, under some large Conifer Trees the grass had stopped growing properly and became patchy so he decided there would be the perfect place to put the climbing frame. To start, he filled the entire area with top soil before covering the area again with decorative pebbles. This gave a hard, yet permeable sub-base on which to lay the grass mats.

Ben then laid the rubber grass mats across the entire area and attached them together using cable ties. As the mats are stood on pebbles and weighed down by the climbing frame they did not need to be secured into the ground using plastic anchors.

Finally, Ben put together the climbing frame with slide, monkey bars and swings and installed this onto the mats. As you can see from the photos, it looks great!

Project Two – Playhouse and Slide

Next us is Carl, just like Ben, he was looking for a solid flooring on which to stand an elevated Playhouse and Slide. He did consider a number of options such as leaving the grass area as it was or using a solid flooring like our Rubber Play Tiles. After much deliberation, he decided on our rubber grass mats as it would provide the same support as the play tiles but still have a natural look because the grass will grow back through the mats.

He began by removing paving stones that were installed at the far right side of the area. He then laid the mats next to each other to fill the entire area between the fence and the house. Carl then tied the mats together using cable ties to ensure they would not separate and leave a chance of tripping. Next, he secured all of the mats into the below turf using the plastic anchor pegs, again ensuring no movement when walked on.

Finally, the playhouse and slide were installed onto the rubber grass mats and secured into the ground using metal leg supports which you can see on the pictures. A great looking play area that is now safe should small trips or falls occur.

Conclusion

Both Ben and Carl are extremely happy with how their projects turned out. As you can see from the photos they both look fantastic. Now their children will have years of fun on their new climbing frames and playhouse with the added protection of the rubber grass mats.

Carl sent us an email; “Please find attached photos of our recent installation of rubber garden mats. Great product – thanks!”

Ben sent us the following email: “I created a raised border in the garden, filled the base with top soil, then the top with pebbles and then laid out your rubber matting. On this area sits a children’s activity centre which I purchased for my 2 boys. The children’s activity centre was purchased from a company called Dunster House, its a decent size and sits perfectly under the conifer trees, the whole area looks really good to be honest. The weather is meant to be nice next week, I will get the grass cut and take some photos for you.”

We would like to say a huge thank to you Carl and Ben for the fantastic images and information they sent into us to create this case study. Should you have any questions regarding our products or any information or photos to share with us then please contact us.
